Inclusive photography

The photographer Raquel Banchio, a collaborator of the LIPA-MIRADA LOCAL team, has integrated photography embroidery, a technique widely used as an artistic and aesthetic resource, as an element that can bring photography closer to blind people.

The experience was born after working with a blind couple, who wanted to be photographed as a family so that their newborn son would have records of his life and growth.

The child, a seer, was the only one who could see the photos so far. Raquel Banchio has integrated embroidery into photos to facilitate image exploration through touch.

The idea was received with great expectation by families with blind children who saw in this concept a possibility to dialogue with their children about images, common history and reconstruct memories incorporating the image as a resource.

The experience is an initial proposal that has a lot of educational potential and that has yet to be developed.
